PACESC Requirements

 PACESC REQUIREMENTS:

PACESC requires that every homeschool member family comply with the following:

The person enrolling for coverage under PACESC MUST be residents of SC and the parent or legal guardian of the child(ren) they are applying to homeschool. Legal guardianship, as defined by PACESC, is established through a lawyer and usually the courts. It does not include simply a notarized statement by a parent granting someone permission to homeschool their child or make educational decisions on their behalf. A foster parent may register with PACESC to homeschool if the child's social services case worker provides written approval. [Grandparents, Aunts, Uncles, Siblings, etc, do not qualify as legal guardians except where Legal Guardianship or Custody has been established by a court.]
A child, even over the age of 17, may not enroll themselves.

A parent/legal guardian must hold at least a high school diploma or the equivalent general educational development (GED) certificate [membership will not be granted without one of these].

The instructional year is at least one hundred eighty days.

The curriculum includes, but is not limited to, the basic instructional areas of reading, writing, mathematics, science, and social studies, and in grades seven through twelve, composition and literature must be added.

Educational records shall be maintained by the parent-teacher and include:

(1) a plan book, diary, or other record indicating subjects taught and activities in which the student and parent-teacher engage;

(2) a portfolio or samples of the student's academic work; and

(3) a semiannual progress report including attendance records and individualized documentation of the student's academic progress in each of the basic instructional areas specified in (c) above.

The parent-teacher will submit the Year End Compliance Statement to PACESC at the completion of their school calendar year, an instructional period not less than 180 days. Days of instruction may include field trips. The total days may not account for missing days, whether considered "excused" or "sick" days.
